TV AD CRITICIZES MCKEON FAILURE ON CEMEX
(Simi Valley) – Today the Lee Rogers for Congress campaign released a TV ad criticizing Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon for his inaction and misplaced priorities when it comes to stopping the Cemex mine in Soledad Canyon. Tomorrow is the deadline for action in the truce negotiated between the City of Santa Clarita and Cemex USA.
According to OpenSecrets.org, in the past 10 years Rep. Buck McKeon has been the recipient of over $200,000 from industries in building materials and transport, construction services, and mining. In 2006, he was #26 out of 535 members of Congress for receiving the most money from the mining industry.
McKeon has introduced legislation in the past, but failed to get adequate co-sponsorship or a committee hearing, a clear indication of his disinterest in the legislation. A week ago, the City Council of Santa Clarita unanimously passed a resolution asking Congressman McKeon to cooperate with the City, Senator Barbara Boxer, and the House leadership in getting a bill through Congress this year.
Dr. Lee Rogers said, “It shouldn’t require a resolution to ask for your Congressman’s help. That should just need a phone call.”
McKeon’s uncooperativeness has also been pointed out by Senator Boxer when she declared she was “stunned” McKeon wasn’t doing more to help his district.
Lee Rogers has vowed to work hard to stop the Cemex mine and placed it at the top of his list of priorities for his first 100 days in Congress.
Dr. Lee Rogers is candidate for Congress in California’s 25th district. He is a nationally-known podiatrist and author on health policy and preventing amputations in diabetes. Lee lives in Simi Valley with his wife and two daughters. For more information about Lee’s campaign, visit www.LeeRogers2012.com.
